Hello everyone. My name is Justin Lee and I am currently enrolled as a sophomore. I am taking this class because I did not want to take the IT 103 which I have heard from my friends and peers that the course is absolutely time consuming as a gen ed. class. I am interested in history, so hopefully I can learn more about the history of digital technology and so forth. I am a Communication major in the concentration of public relations. I came to the United States when I was 8 years old from South Korea and have loved living here ever since. I am from Richmond, Virginia. I enjoy running and playing soccer. I hope that this class will be an enjoyable and memorable experience for all.

Incredibly frustrating of an assignment. It made me sad because I know I can never be a programmer.
archives.org
I enjoy reading ESPN.com. It is one of my main websites that I visit on a daily basis. On archives.org, I did not know espn’s website goes all the way back to 1997. That is a long time. It looked so old fashioned and the website was definitely less organized than it is now. I like how the website is now currently because it is easy to navigate, visually appealing, and more organized. One thing though… I noticed that older ones actually do not have annoying ads. That’s the only better part for the old one compared to the latest one.

Wordle Exercise
I wrote a paper on Tupac Shakur and how he is considered a leader of a social movement. The class I wrote the paper for is Rhetoric and Societal Movement. Wordle does a fantastic job at pointing the major words in the paper.
Edited Powerpoint
I was considering sound, but I feel like it would’ve just made the presentation messier. I like the straightforward style of the presentation. The black and white kind of give that “old school” history atmosphere.
Powerpoint Practice
My powerpoint is on Incheon Landing during the Korean War. I figured I would do something regarding my country’s history as well as American history. Here it is:

Google charts is confusing…
Map of mass murders across the US

I feel that there are many shootings in the US. I am sure I can find the location and the information on the mass shooting sprees in the last 20 years, but it would be very, very time consuming. I guess I’d have to pick out the most notable/notorious ones?

Security Practices
Viruses, trojans, malware, spyware are terrible to have. I remember the earlier days of Windows 2000 and XP when viruses, trojans, and such made life a living hell, but the threat is still real. I do what I can to make sure I can avoid going into suspicious sites as well as downloading things that might be questionable. Lucky for me, living on campus, I was given a copy of Symantec Endpoint Protection, which I believe does a great job in scanning for viruses, spyware, and trojans as well as protecting my computer. I think as long as I backup my work often, the threat of virus and such won’t be as much. But sometimes I forget, so if I do get a virus, life would really suck. In all honesty, I think those people that came up with viruses, trojans, spyware, and malware just suck and are awful human beings. But thanks to Symantec, I feel that my computer is safer.
History in Photographs of California Gold RUsh

I’ve been taught ever since middle school that using .com domain for a history paper or project was unacceptable, and to this day, the usage of .com domain has been prohibited in every single history class that I have taken since middle school. The good reason being is that .com sites are open to pursue any interests whether it would be for shopping, business websites, and so forth. I was told to use .edu sites because the goal of a .edu site was for educational purposes, therefore, a .edu site was appreciated more than .com sites.
Analyzing the historichwy49.com, I have concluded that the website is unethical in regards to education. Although the website said it is based on history, it is not an ethical source to use in papers or projects. I feel that the website is using history to make a profit. The website contained information in regards to shopping, eating, and lodging, which does not seem that historic. How is it possible that one is learning history by ever going on this trip suggested by the website? They listed golf courses, wineries, shopping centers, and restaurants. There is no sense of “education” in this website, therefore, I believe it is unethical to contain the word “historic” anywhere in the website. I concluded that the site is unethical in regards to education because the purpose of the website is not to teach, but to advertise.
In regards to the legality, I feel that the existence of this website is conflicting with the website of the National Park Service. The National Park Service would make money from Americans as a government entity while a website like historichwy49.com can lead Americans away from the National Park Service. I would say that the National Park Service would be a legal entity to make money from tourism. In terms of legality of its existence, I think the website can stay in operation because it is for tourism purposes. I wouldn’t agree that it is a reliable website, but it does not harm anyone unless there are people foolish enough to like what they are seeing on the “historically-misleading tourism website”. I hope that people that are interested in traveling to the Lake Tahoe area do their research through more legitimate websites. They should all stay away from this one.
